Job summary

Michigan Medicine seeks a Clinical Intervention Specialist to deliver manualized brief interventions and support study aims across multi-year research projects. You will apply motivational interviewing, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and patient-centered counseling to engage participants, including those in rural and underserved communities.

The role covers developing study materials, risk assessments, safety planning, data collection, and collaboration with clinic partners.

Qualifications

• Prior training and experience providing counseling/behavioral health support to individuals with substance use disorders or related psychosocial needs.
• Proven experience with motivational interviewing and delivering person-centered, nonjudgmental care.
• Familiarity with clinical care environments including mental health, primary care, or substance use disorder treatment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver manualized brief interventions via evidence-supported approaches (motivational interviewing, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, patient-centered counseling).
• Develop study materials and provide training to support study aims (substance use support, safety, risk reduction).
• Engage with participants in rural communities with strong interpersonal communication and documentation skills.
• Identify and respond to clinical risks, including overdose risk and safety planning per protocols.
• Support research program implementation with clinic partners (assessments, training, consultations).
• Assist with recruitment, data collection/analysis, and day-to-day study activities across multiple studies.
