Job description

Southern Tennessee Regional Health System - Pulaski

Description

Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, under the supervision of a physician and by prescription. Applies the cardiopulmonary process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.

Reports to: Cardiopulmonary Director

Essential Functions

  1. Working with a variety of patients, from neonatal to geriatric
  2. Consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals
  3. Performing routine respiratory care
  4. Establishing treatment plans and operating medical equipment
  5. Administering medication and treatments
  6. Recording patients’ medical histories and symptoms
  7. Setting up plans for patients’ care or contributing to existing plans
  8. Observing patients and recording observations
  9. Knowledge of medical equipment used in the care of the patient
  10. Teaching patients and their families how to manage illnesses or injuries
  11. Explaining post-treatment care at home
  12. Performing Electrocardiograms, Holter Monitoring, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, attending all C-sections and high-risk deliveries of newborns, Arterial Blood Gas sticks, Capillary sticks, Analyzation of Arterial Blood Gases, Cord Blood Gases, Capillary Blood Gases and Carboxyhemoglobin. Maintenance and troubleshooting of the Arterial Blood Gas Analyzer, Pulmonary Function Studies, Electroencephalograms, Stress Testing and Cardiac Rehabilitation.
  13. Full-time employees are required to take a weekend call once every six weeks and in the Cardiopulmonary Director's absence.
  14. PRN employees will be asked to take call periodically and work one holiday annually.
  15. Maintaining work areas in a clean, organized, and well-supplied manner
  16. Able to perform other duties as assigned

Non-Essential Functions

  1. Other duties as assigned.
  2. Must complete all assigned education in a timely manner.
  3. Must complete department-specific education.

  1. Actively participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and Tactics such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board Activities, Executive Patient Safety Rounds and reporting of unanticipated and unintended patient events regardless of whether there is harm.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
Equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or successful completion of AARC approved Certification Program.

Required Skills
Standard patient care equipment, computer documentation and Cardiopulmonary Equipment for services provided. The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently, and to be flexible in applying basic respiratory knowledge to a variety of settings.

Certifications: Will either possess upon hire or acquire within 90 days of employment:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)

Licenses: State of TN, RRT or CRT (ABG Endorsed)
