Job summary

The City of Fayetteville, Arkansas is seeking a trash and recycling collection worker responsible for performing pre/post trip inspections, operating department trucks on assigned routes, and ensuring safe, efficient collection of waste and recyclables. You will work 10 hours a day, on outdoor routes, with radio communication and daily fueling duties.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or related experience.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a Class B CDL within 90 days.
• Must be able to learn basic computer skills for online time clocks, GPS and related tech.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Skilled in use of heavy equipment and trucks.
• Able to use radio and cell phone.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds; safety conscious.
• Work outdoors in varying weather; loud work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre and post trip inspections on a daily basis.
• Operate trucks to collect trash and recycling on assigned routes and load into department vehicles.
• Collect and separate recyclable items.
• Maintain a clean vehicle and perform minor repairs in the field.
• Work a 10 hour day on average.
• Perform radio communication as needed.
• Ensure trucks are fueled daily and recorded.
• Collect trash and recycling safely and follow procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation: This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

1. Perform pre and post trip inspections on a daily basis.
2. Operate all department trucks to assist in the day to day collection of trash and recycling on assigned routes and placing into appropriate department vehicles, as well as offloading in designated areas.
3. Collect and separate recyclable items.
4. Maintain a clean vehicle and perform minor repairs /diagnose problems in the field with equipment.
5. Works a 10 hour day on average.
6. Perform radio communication as needed.
7. Ensure trucks are fueled daily and recorded properly.
8. Responsible for assuring that trash and recycling is collected in a safe manner and that safe procedures are followed in the operation of all department vehicles.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

1. High school diploma or GED; or one year of related experience.
2. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
3. Must obtain a Class B CDL within 90 days of hire date.
4. Must have or have the ability to quickly learn basic computer skills such as those needed for on-line time clocks as well as GPS and other related technology.
5. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing
6. Must be skilled in the use of heavy equipment and trucks.
7. Must be able to utilize two-way radio and cell phone.
8. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
9. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; precarious places; and regularly works outside in various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
