Job summary

EMD Curtiss Wright Electro Mechanical in Cheswick, PA seeks a Rotor Bearings Analyst to design and analyze rotor dynamic systems for critical-function machines. You will apply rotor dynamics and bearing engineering principles, perform hand calculations, and use specialized software for non-linear and transient analyses.

You will develop test programs and tools, document results, and present findings to internal and external customers.

Qualifications

  • US citizens are required due to DoD requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance.
  • Master's in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited institution; PhD highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of rotor dynamics and/or fluid bearing design experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; bearing design and analysis tools; and rotor dynamic software (DyRoBeS, XLROTOR).

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze rotor dynamic systems for pumps, motors, generators, propulsors and new product development.
  • Apply rotor dynamic and bearing engineering principles using hand calculations for sizing, assessments, verification, design support and troubleshooting.
  • Use specialized codes for advanced rotor dynamic and bearing analysis, including non-linear and transient methods.
  • Perform data analysis for product testing and validate test-to-calculation results.
  • Develop, update and evaluate software tools for bearing and rotor dynamic analysis.
  • Plan and execute rotor bearing testing (full scale, sub scale, or mockup) and design test rigs and procedures.
  • Prepare formal design documentation, patents, papers and internal/external communications.

We are looking for a Rotor Bearings Analyst to join our Pittsburgh (Cheswick) location.

You will Design and analyze rotor dynamic systems for pumps, motors, generators, propulsors, and new product development.

Salary: $99,000 - $143,000 per year Please note that the salary range information provided is a general guideline only, reflecting a position based in PA. Your Challenge:
  • Design and analyze fluid film and rolling element thrust and radial bearings
  • Apply rotor dynamic and bearing engineering principles using hand calculations for sizing, assessments, verification, design support, troubleshooting, and in-service issues
  • Use specialized codes for advanced rotor dynamic and bearing analysis, including non-linear and transient analysis methods
  • Perform data analysis for product testing, including rotor dynamic behavior and bearing performance, and test-to-calculation validation
  • Develop, update and evaluate software tools for bearing and rotor dynamic analysis
  • Propose, develop, and design rotor dynamic and bearing testing (full scale, sub scale, or mockup), including design of test program, equipment setup/test rig design, instrumentation selection, and test procedure development
  • Effective composition and documentation skills, including formal design documentation, patents, technical papers, and articles
  • Make effective technical presentations for internal and external customers
  • Provide task-based cost estimates, scopes of work and engineering schedules of high fidelity for the individual job function
  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams to design, analyze, build and test critical function rotating electric machines.
  • Perform analysis and test projects to achieve technical, cost, quality and risk-reduction objectives
  • Understand customer perspectives and inputs and take appropriate responsive actions
  • Support and participate in design review activities
  • Perform work in accordance with departmental procedures and instructions, CW policies, and safety, environmental, and security rules and guidelines
What You Bring:
  • Due to DoD requirements, candidates must be US citizens.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.
  • Masters in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited institution
  • Advanced degree (PhD) is highly desirable
  • Prior work and/or research and development experience of 10 or more years in rotor dynamics and/or fluid bearing design field
  • MS Office
  • Bearing design and analysis tools
  • DyRoBeS, XLROTOR, or other rotor dynamic analysis tools
