The Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking a Trainee-Graduate Engineer to participate in a two-year rotation program across Construction, Design, Materials, Project Management and more. Trainees gain hands-on experience while earning mentorship and professional development support.

Selected candidates begin in January or May, aim to complete all rotations, and pursue professional licensure within six years while advancing through assigned home-base offices in Minnesota.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geo-engineering, or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited college/university or equivalent.
• GPA higher than 2.5
• A valid class D driver's license.
• 3.0 GPA or higher (Preferred Qualification).
• A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Professional Engineer (PE) exam (Preferred Qualification).
• MnDOT experience or city/county experience (Preferred Qualification).
• Road construction or road design experience (Preferred Qualification).
• Project management experience (Preferred Qualification).

Responsibilities

• The Minnesota Department of Transportation's Graduate Engineer Training Program is a 2-year rotation program with 3–6 month rotations in Construction, Design, Materials, Project Management, Traffic, or Water Resources.
• Trainees rotate through Bridge-specific areas if assigned to the Bridge office, gaining broad professional engineering experience.
• Structured mentorship, training opportunities, and a large support network are provided to support growth and development as an engineer.
