Job summary

The Rotating Teacher role with the City of Cambridge Department of Human Service Programs supports children from Preschool through Afterschool (K–5) in Cambridge. You will assist teachers, supervise safety on outings, and help with learning activities while maintaining strong family communication.

Candidates should have relevant education, be available daily, and complete required trainings. The position emphasizes asset‑based, nurturing environments and collaboration with program staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of related experience working with children; associate degree with 9 months of half-time related experience; or bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred; if not certified, complete training within six months of hire.
• Applicants must be 21+ and pass the EEC background checks including CORI/SORI fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Foster a positive classroom environment and engage children in activities and routines.
• Provide nurturing, socially responsive care to all enrolled children.
• Assist teachers with one‑on‑one or small‑group activities.
• Ensure children's safety during outdoor play, field trips, and transitions.
• Maintain communication with parents about daily experiences.
• Attend meetings and trainings as required by the department.
