Job summary

Kratos Defense seeks a Rotating Component Design Release Engineer to own turbomachinery hardware from concept through production release. You will develop turbine wheels, compressor components, shafts, bearings, and seals, ensuring robust, manufacturable designs aligned with performance targets.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of rotating machinery and turbomachinery design.
• Knowledge of mechanical design principles including stress, fatigue, and thermal effects.
• Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings with GD&T.
• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Ability to manage confidential and export-controlled information (ITAR).

Responsibilities

• Own the design and development of rotating turbomachinery components.
• Support 3D CAD models and 2D drawings development.
• Define component best practices based on requirements and tolerances.
• Apply continuous improvement to refine design and processes.
• Ensure designs meet structural, thermal, and performance requirements.
• Release drawings and specifications per configuration management standards.
• Support ECRs/ECNs and PLM/PDM control.
• Coordinate structural/rotational analyses with CAE/FEA engineers.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure producibility and assembly readiness.
• Support test and validation activities and root cause investigations.
• Work with cross-functional teams on design reviews and risk assessments.
