Job summary

The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa is seeking a dedicated Room Attendant to clean guest rooms to luxury standards, keep the housekeeping cart organized, and support general cleaning tasks. The role involves serving both occupied and departed rooms within the hotel environment.

Flexibility is required to cover mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Training new employees and maintaining discretion and professionalism are also key aspects of this position.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Housekeeping/JANITORIAL experience preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to work flexible shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Job description

The room attendant is responsible for the cleaning of a quota of guest rooms each shift, including both occupied and departed rooms. The room attendant ensures that guest rooms are prepared to the established standard, maintains housekeeping cart supplied and organized, and participates in extra projects such as general cleaning, training new employees, etc, in the hotel rooms. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Essential Job Functions

• Must have ability to perform daily work at a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
• Be respectful and cooperative with team members.
• Be knowledgeable about safe use of chemicals and can accurately select appropriate chemicals and tools for each task.
• Recognize all amenities and collateral materials that are part of guest room service and ensure that each guest room is properly equipped every day.
• Be familiar with service standards and be compliant in each guest room.
• Maintain service cart, equipment and supplies in an orderly fashion.
• Respond appropriately to changing business needs and guest requests.
• Report maintenance problems and defects to supervision for correction.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Job Requirements

Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:

• Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 50 lbs. year. Frequently manipulate carts that weigh 200 lbs. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to perform all activities in a professional manner. Must be able to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
• Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
• Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets. Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
• Literacy: Must be able to produce, read and understand reports, including security, incident and police reports. Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
• Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements
