Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 300 campus buildings with more than 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, Life Safety Services, and the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling. Campus Maintenance operates, maintains and improves the physical environment of the University through a complete line of shop services that include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, insulation, preventive maintenance and special laboratory equipment repair.
Position Summary: A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $4,081 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE: $2,040.50 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $2,040.50 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE. This position is responsible for making roofing and carpentry repairs and installations, as well as performing preventive maintenance to all campus buildings. A valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date. Also requires a NC State Inspector's License or the ability to achieve certification within six months of hire.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Management Preferences: The preferred candidate will have a good knowledge of carpentry repair. Experience with metal fabrication for downspouts and gutters, waterproofing and drains, and operation of boom and lifts is preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications: A valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date. Also requires a NC State Inspector's License or the ability to achieve certification within six months of hire.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements: Ability to move objects in excess of 50 lbs. Work from tall ladders and scaffolds in excess of 60 ft. Work on hands and knees or with hands overhead for extended periods of time. This position is designated as mandatory and requires the employee to report to work to support critical University operations during adverse weather or other emergency conditions, including public health emergencies or situations that may result in University closure.

Special Instructions: ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. This SHRA Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form.
