MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, a leading US publisher of Trade and Academic titles, has a job opening for a Rolling Equipment (Forklift) Operator in Shipping at our Gordonsville facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and fulfillment for Macmillan US, serving as their primary distribution center for North America.

The role involves operating all rolling equipment (forklifts) to move, locate, relocate, pick, and stack products. Responsibilities include accurately counting products, ensuring damage-free inbound and outbound shipments, and verifying paperwork, labeling, and addressing of orders per specifications. The operator must ensure safe and efficient equipment operation and perform other duties as assigned.

Description

The employee must operate all equipment including Pacer, Turret Truck, Order Picker, and Walkie/Rider, and work at heights of 35 feet while wearing PPE such as a safety harness. The role may require working in different areas and locations based on workload.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lift and move cartons from conveyor to appropriate drop zones (pallets).
• Place full and partial pallet picks in designated areas.
• Load outbound trucks.
• Verify inbound and outbound freight quantities.
• Prepare products for shipment, ensuring correct quantities and types are loaded.
• Verify completeness and accuracy of receipts and orders, report shortages or issues.
• Ensure all shipping and receipt documents are accurate and match physical counts.
• Assist in resolving discrepancies.
• Utilize devices like scanners and Pick-To-Voice systems.
• Follow work instructions precisely and update supervisors upon completion.
• Assist with cycle counting.
• Transport full pallets to the shrink wrapping machine using appropriate equipment.
• Inspect cartons and pallets for damage.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Promote safety during operations.
• Follow safety, health, and housekeeping policies to minimize injuries and damage.
• Adhere to all company policies and environmental, health, safety standards.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: At least 6 months to 1 year of forklift experience.

Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, perform basic math, operate various equipment including turret trucks, order pickers, and forklifts, and work at heights wearing PPE.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds, frequent sitting, talking, hearing, handling objects, reaching, and working at heights with safety harnesses.

Work Environment: Exposure to temperature changes, electrical shocks, moving mechanical parts, and moderate noise levels. Work at heights of 35 feet wearing PPE.
