Job summary

Vallourec in the United States seeks a Roll Shop Operator to support roll tooling, assemblies, and machine rebuilds in a hands-on shop setting. You will rotate through multiple positions, document precise measurements, and assist millwrights and maintenance teams to ensure safety and quality.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• General mechanical aptitude and familiarity with machine shop environments.
• Experience with CNC lathe operations and basic programming preferred.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow SOPs.
• Proficient in using measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
• Comfortable with hydraulic systems, bolts, fittings, and mechanical assemblies.
• Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and unit conversions.
• Ability to operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and motorized vehicles.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to train and grow within the role.
• Technical degree or Machinist certification preferred.
• Candidates who do not pass the maintenance assessment may still be considered for production roles.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC lathes and mills to re-machine rolls and tooling.
• Disassemble and assemble roll stands, gearboxes, and hydraulic components.
• Perform mechanical rebuilds including bearing changes and gearbox maintenance.
• Use micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to ensure precision.
• Torch cut and perform minor welding as needed.
• Clean and maintain tooling and work areas following 5S standards.
• Document measurements and quality data per shop requirements.
• Communicate tooling issues or quality excursions to the mill team.
• Rotate through up to 7 positions within the shop for cross-functional experience.
• Participate in continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
• Support contractors and collaborate with maintenance teams.

As a Roll Shop Operator, you will play a key role in supporting production by preparing, assembling, disassembling, and re-machining mill tooling and stands. Your Day-to-Day Impact

• Operating CNC lathes and mills to re-machine rolls and tooling.
• Disassembling and assembling roll stands, gearboxes, and hydraulic components.
• Performing mechanical rebuilds including bearing changes, hydraulic fitting replacements, and gearbox maintenance.
• Using hand and specialty tools (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, micrometers, calipers) to complete tasks with precision.
• Torch cutting and minor welding as needed.
• Cleaning, prepping, and maintaining tooling and work areas (5S standards).
• Accurately documenting measurements, diameters, and quality data per shop requirements.
• Communicating tooling issues or quality excursions to the mill team.
• Rotating through up to 7 different positions within the shop, gaining cross-functional experience.
• Participating in continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
• Supporting contractors (primarily millwrights) and collaborating closely with maintenance teams.
