We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Roll Shop Manager to provide leadership for a critical manufacturing department responsible for roll grinding, CNC machining, and related operations. This position will play a key role in maintaining operational performance, product quality, equipment reliability, and a strong culture of safety and accountability.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong mechanical background, hands-on experience with roll grinding and CNC machining, and demonstrated leadership experience in a steel mill or comparable heavy manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Roll Shop, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
- Provide technical and operational leadership for roll grinding, CNC machining, and related processes.
- Manage, coach, and develop Roll Shop personnel to achieve departmental goals.
- Ensure rolls and machined components meet required quality and dimensional specifications.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, process capability, equipment reliability, and overall operating performance.
- Work closely with maintenance, production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve operational and technical issues.
- Establish and maintain appropriate production priorities, schedules, procedures, and performance standards.
- Monitor departmental performance and take corrective action when necessary.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable safety requirements.
- Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives involving machining, grinding, tooling, and equipment.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and performance metrics for the department.
- Participate in strategic planning and capital improvement initiatives related to Roll Shop operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, or equivalent strong mechanical/technical background.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in roll grinding, CNC machining, or closely related manufacturing operations.
- Proven leadership and supervisory/management experience.
- Experience in a steel mill, metals processing facility, or similar heavy manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, machining processes, grinding operations, and dimensional requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical and operational problems.
- Strong communication, organizational, decision-making, and team-building skills.
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
