Job summary

Nucor Steel Utah, located in Plymouth, UT, seeks an Automation Technician to maintain and optimize its automated systems. You will troubleshoot, upgrade, and support world-class operations with a focus on safety, reliability, and cost efficiency.

The role requires hands-on control systems experience, strong PLC/HMI skills, and a commitment to safe work practices. Weekend and overtime availability is expected.

Qualifications

• Two-year college degree or equivalent required.
• Experience with PLC programming, HMIs, Wonderware/FTView, and PID loops.
• 5 years automation and controls experience.
• Willingness to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade, and optimize automated systems.
• Promote safety, quality, cost, and reliability in operations.
• Lead maintenance strategies and demonstrate leadership in the team.

The Automation Technician will play a crucial role in maintaining, troubleshooting, upgrading, and optimizing our automated systems. The Automation technician will provide technical expertise, promote Safety, Quality, Cost, & Reliability that support World Class Operations and demonstrate leadership through the maintenance strategy.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and scheduled and unscheduled overtime
• Two-year college degree or other education, training, and certifications
• Demonstratable experience with PLC Programing, HMI’s, Wonderware and/or FTVIEW, scaling instrumentation, PID loops
• 5 years automation and controls experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Four-year college degree or other education, training, and certifications.
• Control Logix’s Experience
• AB & ABB Drive Experience
• Familiarity with NFPA 70E-Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace
