Job summary

Fortis Solutions Group in Novi, MI is seeking a Finishing Operator responsible for operating a machine to convert large press rolls into smaller rolls per customer specifications. You will set up the machine, verify core IDs, and ensure correct copy position and box IDs for accurate shipping or stocking.

You will review work instructions, monitor quality, perform splices, communicate with shifts, maintain a clean workspace, and record shop floor data in the ERP system.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year machine operation experience, printing-related production experience preferred.
• Good communication skills and attention to detail.
• Must be proactive to catch problems or inconsistencies and bring them to your direct supervisor’s attention.
• Good organization skills to manage multiple different items each day.
• Meet minimum required score on mechanical aptitude test.

Responsibilities

• Review job work instructions and set up the machine properly for the job, including blades, cores, and copy position.
• Operate the machine to finish master press rolls to customer specification.
• Review items and rolls for quality and consistency.
• Perform splices in which two rolls of the same product are joined together. Follow company procedures and requirements for verification of the product ID numbers.
• Verify Core IDs for the finished rolls match the work instruction for the item.
• Place finished rolls in the proper box, verifying the core and box IDs match, and place the box in the designated area for either shipping or stock products.
• Communicate with Shift Supervisor, Production Manager, and/or Scheduler regarding issues with the item, including over or under runs, item quality, or ID number questions.
• Maintains the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed Fortis policies and safety regulations.
• Use ERP system to record shop floor data
• Additional duties as required.
