Job summary

A nationwide leader in engineering services is seeking a Survey/Instrument Operator to join their Atlanta team. The role involves assisting survey crews with collecting data, maintaining equipment, and performing fieldwork. Candidates must have a High School diploma and strong math skills. We are seeking a Survey/Instrument Operator to join our Atlanta, GA team! Come join us!

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Hold prism pole, GNSS rover pole or level rod at designated points to assist in determining positions, elevations, and laying out stakes for map making, construction, land, and other surveys.
  • Keep truck stocked with supplies and maintain condition of all survey equipment.
  • Perform field work and related manual labor in support of land surveying operations.
  • Move a range pole or level rod over all types of terrain to obtain elevations, contours, location, elevation and dimension of land features.
  • Move prism pole into proper horizontal and vertical positions for accurate data collection.
  • Data Collector operation.
  • Assist survey crew in setting up equipment and preparing job site for survey.
  • Prepare truck daily with necessary equipment to perform survey work.
  • Remove obstacles/clear brush and trees away from survey line.
  • Work as part of a crew under the direction of a crew chief.
  • Report for work at Battery Atlanta office each workday.
  • Perform rod technician position duties and train new rod technicians once proficient.
  • Learn how to use field instruments and maintain instruments in good working order.
  • Operate all field instruments including levels, total stations, GPS units, and data collectors.
  • Perform basic calibrations to all field equipment.
  • Operate a data collector for various survey applications.
  • Perform basic first aid if required.
  • Be able to learn and comprehend the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Survey manual.
  • Inscribe basic field notes including level notes.
  • Monitor project‑related, on‑site issues and provide input for production improvement.
  • Participate in continuing education classes identified as important to improve skills.
  • Supervise field crew on an as‑needed basis during absence of Field Superintendent or Party Chief.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Hold a High School Diploma or GED (some college preferred).
  • Candidate must have a clean driving record.
  • Strong basic arithmetic and math skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to walk over rough and steep terrain for long distances daily if required.
Preferred experience:
  • Familiar with working outside in all seasons.
  • Previous land survey experience preferred but not necessary.
