Job summary

Atlas Surveying, Inc. in Charleston, SC, is seeking an Entry-Level Instrument Operator to join our field team.

You will support setup and operation of surveying equipment, assist experienced crews, and learn surveying fundamentals through our training program. No prior experience is required; you will work outdoors in varied weather, gain hands-on practice with total stations, GPS, and data collectors, and have opportunities for career advancement within a collaborative, safety-focused

Qualifications

  • No prior surveying experience required; company provides training.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean record (for vehicle driving eligibility).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to follow instructions and work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setup and operation of surveying equipment (total stations, GPS, data collectors).
  • Learn and apply basic surveying techniques under supervision.
  • Perform tasks such as holding survey rods and measuring distances; record data accurately.
  • Follow Crew Chief guidance to ensure efficient surveying operations.
  • Maintain survey equipment and assist with equipment transport to job sites.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.

We're looking for motivated individuals to join us as Entry-Level Instrument Operators. This role is perfect for those keen to begin a career in land surveying, even without prior experience. As an Instrument Operator, you'll team up with seasoned surveying experts, aiding in field operations and gaining invaluable knowledge of land surveying basics. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the setup and operation of surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS, and data collectors.
  • Learn and apply basic surveying techniques under the guidance of experienced surveyors.
  • Perform tasks such as holding survey rods, measuring distances, and recording data accurately.
  • Follow instructions from the Crew Chief and other senior team members to ensure efficient and accurate surveying operations.
  • Maintain survey equipment and assist with equipment transportation to and from job sites.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
Qualifications:
  • No prior experience in land surveying is required - we will provide training and support for the right candidates.
  • This position may require driving a company vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license and no infractions for a minimum of 3 years is required to be approved to drive a company vehicle and added to the company insurance policy.
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • The ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift 75 lbs. Mental and physical labors are to be expected.
  • Honest, dependable, thorough, safety-conscious, and possessing a strong work ethic.
