Job summary

The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Surgical Technician to gain hands-on experience in anesthesia, perioperative care, and surgical support for mice. No prior surgical experience required as comprehensive training is provided.

You will contribute to post-operative assessments, equipment maintenance, and packing mice for shipment, while developing your skills in a dynamic, biomedical research environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with laboratory rodents is preferred.
• Ability to learn aseptically perform basic survival surgical procedures on mice under a microscope.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across organizational levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel; flexible with schedule and travel.

Responsibilities

• Perform perioperative tasks: pre-operative health assessments, anesthesia, dosing, monitoring vitals, recovery, and records.
• Provide surgical support: post-operative assessment, stocking/sanitizing areas, equipment maintenance, and packing mice for shipment.
• Perform minor surgical procedures such as incision repair and continuously develop surgical skills.
