Job summary

George E. Booth Co., Inc is a family-owned industrial automation sales company seeking a full-time Automation Controls Engineer for the Greater Chicagoland area.

The role emphasizes Rockwell programming, design, testing, and on-site support of automation systems. Responsibilities include PLC design and troubleshooting, FAT/SAT, SCADA/HMI configuration (FactoryTalk, Ignition, ICONICS), electrical schematics, and customer-facing technical support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or 3–5 years’ work experience in a similar technical capacity.
• Certification in control systems, automation, or specific PLCs.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
• Experience in SCADA and HMI design and configuration.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems using Rockwell Automation software (Allen-Bradley) including RS Logix, Studio Logix and Connected Components Workbench
• Perform FAT/SAT testing aligned with company standards
• Collaborate with project teams to develop control system architectures and specifications
• Develop and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
• Assist in SCADA system design and configuration including FactoryTalk, Ignition, and ICONICS platforms
• Provide technical support to clients and resolve automation-related issues
• Participate in on-site commissioning, start-up, and training activities
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in automation and control systems
• Troubleshoot controls, network, and SCADA systems; support site-specific problems
• Willingness to train less experienced engineers
• All other duties as assigned
