Job summary

W3Global is seeking a Controls Engineer in Grand Rapids, MI to design, develop, program, integrate, and implement automation systems for custom machinery. You will work with PLCs, motion control, robotics, and HMI/SCADA, and support builds from commissioning to final delivery.

The ideal candidate has Rockwell Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View experience, plus FANUC robotics knowledge, and a strong problem-solving mindset.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of controls engineering experience in industrial automation or custom machinery.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View.
• Experience with industrial robotics, preferably FANUC.
• Familiarity with automated assembly systems and machine integration.
• Understanding of PLC programming, controls system integration, and troubleshooting.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control systems involving PLCs, motion control, robotics, vision systems, and HMI/SCADA platforms.
• Program, integrate, and troubleshoot systems using Rockwell Automation platforms, robotics, and advanced automation technologies.
• Support machine build, debugging, testing, and commissioning activities at company facilities and customer sites.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineering, project management, and manufacturing teams to deliver integrated automation solutions.
• Take ownership of assigned controls modules or subsystems within larger engineering projects.
• Troubleshoot automation systems and help resolve technical issues to ensure reliable performance.
• Apply industry best practices and emerging technologies to improve engineering solutions and processes.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and follow established engineering standards.
• Maintain confidentiality when working on sensitive projects.
