Kettering University seeks a part-time Robotics Project and Outreach Specialist to support FIRST, VEX, and drone robotics programs while coordinating camps, labs, and events. This role engages high school and college students, assists with outreach, and ensures smooth operation of robotics facilities.

The position emphasizes community engagement, hands-on mentorship, and collaboration with faculty, staff, and students to promote STEM education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring students is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills are essential.
  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Comfort interacting with high school and college students.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 or Office applications.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate robotics and drone competitions and events.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment in the robotics center.
  • Lead pre-college robotics camps and collaborate with staff.
  • Support recruiting and outreach to in-state partners.
  • Monitor and respond to robotics center communications.
  • Assist with event setup, tear-down, and safety protocols.

Competitive robotics: FIRST , VEX and/or Drone robotics program experience

Robotics and Drones Competition Coordination

  • Post robotic/drone events in appropriate channels for approval
  • Coordinate and execute the physical aspects related to robotic/drone competitions including preparation, set up, operation, and tear down of the events
  • Secure volunteers to staff the events
  • Acquire quotes for event rental needs: bleachers, pipe & drape, tables & chairs, AV system and reserve upon approval
  • Communicate with campus dining regarding meals needed
  • Communicate with facilities regarding: floor covering, power needs, and custodial needs
  • Oversee and participate in field set up and tear down – Physical labor and some heavy lifting
  • Ensure Kettering brand is displayed and adhered to for event
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Prepare and lead robotics camps, as assigned
  • Collaborate with director and staff to:
  • Evaluate robotic camps: registration, revenue, and relevance
  • Plan future camp schedule: topics, dates and max registration
  • Forecast expenses and supply needs for future camps
  • Other duties as assigned
