Job summary

ABB is seeking a Project Manager, Robotics Paint Process Automation, US, to lead medium-to-large scale projects in a hybrid role, based in the Auburn Hills, MI area or the Great Lakes/Mid-Atlantic regions.

You will manage schedules, budgets, and resources while collaborating across Supply Chain, Engineering, and customers. Travel up to 30% across North America is required, with a focus on successful project closure and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred; knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles is required.
• 5-10+ years of paint and sealer automation experience.
• Experience in Site Management and Project Management is required.
• Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering and/or Robot programming background is preferred.
• Willingness to travel 30% across North America.

Responsibilities

• Leads the project team allocated to the project, defining main guidelines, allocating project tasks, and motivating and monitoring internal and external resources to accomplish all tasks and milestones.
• Defining, jointly with the Project Controls department, all project plan documents, including scope and financial plans, schedule, and risk management plans.
• Ensures that the project follows execution, best practices, and ABB policies. Monitors and controls project progress and efficient resource utilization; oversees invoicing, cost, expenses, and cash flow.
• Ensures that the project consistently applies contract and claims management, and coordinates with Supply Chain Management for procurement.
• Acts as key contact for the customer and an escalation point for project issues; maintains relationships with stakeholders.
• Ensures the project follows and complies with company health, safety, and environmental policies.

This Position reports to: Project Mgmt Sr Coord

The Project Manager, Robotics Paint Process Automation, US leads the execution of medium to large scale projects with varying degrees of complexity. This role will oversee multiple projects each having the responsibility of managing project schedules, adherence to project budgets, customer satisfaction, and resource planning. This role will also lead the project team and be able to work cross functionally across different areas of the business including interfacing with Supply Chain, Engineering, Suppliers and Customers. This role includes traveling to site when required for project installation and commissioning activities to ensure proper project closure.

The work model for this position is hybrid; this individual can be based in the Auburn Hills, MI area or within the Great Lakes Region or Mid-Atlantic Region.

Your role and responsibilities:

Project Leadership

• Leads the project team allocated to the project, defining main guidelines, allocating project tasks, and motivating and monitoring internal and external resources to accomplish all tasks and milestones. Provides performance feedback regarding allocated resources working on projects.

Planning and Scheduling

• Defining, jointly with the Project Controls department, all project plan documents, including scope and financial plans, schedule, and risk management plans.

Project Execution and Control

• Ensures that the project follows execution, best practices, and ABB policies. Effectively monitors and controls project progress and efficient resource utilization. Monitors and controls project financials, overseeing project invoicing status, cost, expenses, and cash flow. Identifies, qualifies, quantifies, and manages project risks, and ensures that all opportunities are identified and pursued. Captures, analyses, and shares lessons learned throughout the project. Ensure that the project is formally closed out, as contractually agreed. Drives the formal acceptance of the project, contract close-out, and its acknowledgement by the customer.

Contracts, Claims, and Procurement Management

• Ensures that the project consistently applies contract and claims management, in accordance with ABB policies and contractual agreements. Coordinates with Supply Chain Management, and successfully procures required services, materials, and equipment for the project from external and internal suppliers. Support Supply Chain Management in supplier negotiations, claims, and project changes.

Stakeholder Relations

• Acts as key contact for the customer and an escalation point for project issues. Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicates with all stakeholders.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

• Ensures the project follows and complies with company health, safety, and environmental policies.

Qualifications for the role:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred; knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles is required.
• 5-10+ years of paint and sealer automation experience.
• Experience in Site Management and Project Management is required.
• Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering and/or Robot programming background is preferred.
• Team building skills and ability to drive accountability and work across functions to complete projects as needed.
• Technical Software: Microsoft Project, SAP, and Excel proficiency is required.
• Willingness to travel 30% across North America.
