Job summary

Ascension is seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant in Austin, TX, to work PRN rotating shifts at Dell Seton Medical Center-UT. You will support surgeons during procedures, maintain a clear field, and help reposition patients with specialized devices.

The role requires BLS and a NBSTSA credential, plus the ability to be on-call for emergencies. Minimum education includes a high school diploma or equivalent, with preferred associate/technical degree or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date; AED/CPR endorsed by AHA or ARC.
• One or more of the following NBSTSA or equivalent credentials: Certified First Surgical Assistant or Certified First Surgical Assistant credentialed.

Responsibilities

• Partner directly with primary surgeons during operative procedures to provide manual and mechanical tissue retraction, maintain a clear surgical field, control hemostasis, and perform body plane closures.
• Position patients using stabilization devices to optimize exposure while safeguarding skin, nerves, and physiological alignment.
• Apply sterile dressings, secure wound drainage, and oversee post-procedure room turnover and decontamination to maintain OR efficiency.
• Collaborate with operating room staff, handle delegable tasks, and maintain availability for emergency on-call shifts.
