Work Arrangement: Onsite / Relocation Provided
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Robotics Engineering Lead to own the automation of targeted manufacturing processes from concept through production. You will evaluate manufacturing operations for automation, select the right robotics technologies, and personally lead the design, programming, integration, and commissioning of robotic systems.
This role will focus heavily on collaborative robots (cobots) for assembly, material handling, machine tending, inspection, and testing, as well as autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for intelligent material movement across the manufacturing floor.
This is a technical leadership position for someone who enjoys solving real manufacturing problems hands-on while also setting technical direction and mentoring engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize manufacturing processes suitable for automation and develop the technical and business case.
- Design, program, integrate, and commission cobots for assembly, material handling, machine tending, inspection, and testing.
- Deploy and integrate AMRs for material movement, including route planning, fleet coordination, and workstation handoffs.
- Own automation projects end-to-end, including requirements, concept design, simulation, build, FAT/SAT, validation, and production handoff.
- Integrate robots, sensors, machine vision, end-effectors, and existing factory equipment.
- Serve as the hands-on technical lead by establishing robotics standards, reviewing designs, and mentoring engineers and technicians.
- Evaluate robotics, cobot, AMR, and systems-integration vendors; lead pilots and scale successful solutions.
- Partner with safety teams on robotic-system design, risk assessments, and production readiness.
- Develop documentation, runbooks, operating procedures, and training materials for production teams.
- Troubleshoot and optimize deployed systems to improve throughput, quality, reliability, and operator experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent industry research experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of industrial automation or robotics experience, including deployment in a live manufacturing/production environment.
- Strong combination of software and mechanical engineering skills.
- Hands-on experience programming and integrating collaborative robots, such as Universal Robots or similar platforms.
- Experience with robot end-effectors, grippers, and machine vision.
- Hands-on experience deploying AMRs and material-handling automation on a factory floor.
- Experience with cobot simulation and offline programming for cell layout, cycle-time, and reachability validation.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, project ownership, and mentoring experience while remaining hands-on.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ROS / ROS 2 and robotic simulation/digital-twin tools such as RobotStudio, RoboDK, or equivalent platforms.
- Knowledge of 2D/3D machine vision, force/torque control, and pick-and-place applications.
- AMR fleet management and integration with WMS/MES environments.
- Experience in electronics, precision manufacturing, or high-mix/low-volume manufacturing.
- CAD experience with Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
- Vendor certifications on relevant robotic/cobot platforms.
- Working knowledge of robotic and collaborative machine-safety standards, including ISO 10218, ISO/TS 15066, ISO 12100, and ISO 13849.
What You'll Do
You will work directly on manufacturing automation projects where your work has a visible impact on the production floor. From mapping a manual process and simulating a robot cell to tuning grippers, integrating vision, optimizing AMR routes, and commissioning a production system, you will be involved throughout the entire automation lifecycle.
Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
