Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a Robotics/Automation Engineering Technician I in Post Falls, ID to join the Product Support and Development - Mechanical team within the Manufacturing Division. The role blends hands-on design, problem solving, and customer interaction to develop mechanical and robotic solutions for safer, more reliable production environments.

Qualifications

• 2-year+ technical degree or equivalent training/experience
• Competence with applied physics, geometry, algebra, and basic trigonometry
• Competence with industrial automation fundamentals: Controls, sensors, safety, industrial programming & networks
• 2+ years in automation integration, materials and processes, mechanics, manufacturing engineering, or electronic manufacturing techniques
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Clear and effective communication—written and verbal
• Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
• Ability to work well in a team
• Able to pass a background check and drug test per SEL requirements

Responsibilities

• Hands-on design work, problem-solving, and direct customer interaction
• Collaborate from problem statements to solution integration and implementation
• Assist in developing mechanical solutions for safer, more reliable production
• Utilize robotics, end-of-arm tooling, computer vision tools, and custom fixtures
• Programming, assembly, and CAD work on the production floor to validate designs
• Participate in design reviews and provide feedback within a small Agile team to deliver timely results
