Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Sr Automation Controls Engineer for Equipment Engineering in Normal, IL. You will lead controls on production lines, troubleshoot issues, and deploy continuous improvement projects across multiple modules including paint, body, drive unit, battery, and general assembly.

You will collaborate with Rivian teams to refine standards, perform equipment buy-offs, and ensure compliance with safety and electrical design requirements.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
• 5+ years of robotics experience in industrial automation.
• Basic understanding of mechanical repair, programming, and circuit design.
• Experience with robotics applications like joining, material handling, SPR, and bolting.
• Experience with machine vision systems (Keyence, Mech Mind, IS Vision, Preceptron).
• Robot offline programming and commissioning from scratch.
• In-depth knowledge of safety standards (ANSI/RIA 15.06, OSHA).
• Experience with fieldbus networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet).
• Experience with project management tools (Smart Sheets, JIRA, Microsoft suite).

Responsibilities

• Participate in controls equipment buy-offs at vendors and Rivian factory for FAT, SAT, and safety.
• Develop controls standards and specifications from lessons learned.
• Improve production lines by reducing cycle time and downtime and improving quality.
• Create new programs for process changes in existing lines adhering to Rivian standards.
• Version control equipment programs, configs and documentation.
• Manage network devices added or removed from equipment.
• Troubleshoot and enhance robot logic for production and performance.
• Ensure robot safeties are properly implemented and validated.
• Train Production and Maintenance teams on equipment operation and troubleshooting.
