Job summary

Stony Brook University, Renaissance School of Medicine, Surgery division, seeks a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon specialized in minimally invasive and robotic techniques at a tertiary care academic medical center on Long Island.

The role combines clinical care, teaching, research and innovation with opportunities for academic promotion and leadership in cardiac surgery. Collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams is expected.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree required and board eligible/certified
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency
  • Fellowship training and/or significant experience in robotic cardiac surgery

Responsibilities

  • Perform cardiac surgery using robotic assisted and minimally invasive techniques including mitral valve repair, ASD repair, and coronary revascularization.
  • Provide pre-, intra-, and post-operative care.
  • Collaborate with cardiology, anesthesiology, perfusion and surgical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintain high standards of patient safety and quality improvement.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedule.
  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in open and robotic cardiac surgery.
  • Develop lectures and simulation training for robotic surgery.
  • Serve on academic committees and contribute to curriculum development for divisional education.
  • Conduct clinical or translational research and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
