Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a rodman on the preconstruction survey crew under general supervision to establish line and grade for proposed highway projects.

Responsibilities include operating level rod, collecting topography, assisting with total station and data collector, maintaining field notes, and helping locate property lines under a SC registered land surveyor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of related work experience.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license required.
• Physical ability to bend, kneel, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs; outdoor work possible.

Responsibilities

• Operate level rod to determine elevations and establish coordinates.
• Assist in establishing line and grade for proposed highways and collect topo data.
• Maintain field notes and reduce level notes for elevation accuracy.
• Assist with basic survey instruments (total station, data collector) and equipment.
• Conduct courthouse and field research to locate property lines under a registered land surveyor.
