Job summary

The Will Group in Illinois is seeking a Roadway Resident Engineer for night shift to oversee roadway construction, ensure compliance with IDOT specifications, project plans, and quality standards in the field.

You will coordinate with contractors, inspectors, utilities, and stakeholders; review schedules, submittals, RFIs, and pay estimates; maintain daily reports and documentation; and support closeout while promoting a strong safety culture on active sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with IDOT roadway experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of roadway construction inspection, construction engineering, or construction management experience.
• Experience on IDOT, municipal, county, or transportation infrastructure projects.
• Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and engineering drawings.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site representative for roadway and transportation construction projects.
• Administer construction documentation and project records in accordance with IDOT requirements and contract specifications.
• Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
• Coordinate daily construction activities with contractors, inspectors, owners, utilities, and stakeholders.
• Review contractor pay estimates, change orders, and quantity documentation.
• Facilitate project meetings and communicate project status, issues, and resolutions.
• Identify construction challenges and provide timely solutions in coordination with project leadership.
• Assist with project closeout, final inspections, punch lists, and record documentation.

This role is ideal for a construction professional who enjoys being in the field, solving problems, coordinating teams, and ensuring projects are delivered safely and successfully.Position SummaryThe Roadway Resident Engineer serves as the owner’s representative in the field, overseeing roadway and transportation construction activities, ensuring compliance with contract documents, IDOT specifications, project plans, and quality standards.This position supports night shift construction operations and requires regular overnight work hours.
