THE POSITION
The Roadway Programs Technician 1 position with the Department of Transportation offers an exciting opportunity to support key maintenance efforts across Wayne County. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports maintenance operations by assisting with inspections, inventory tracking, and program oversight. You will perform both office and field tasks to help ensure efficient and safe roadway activities. As a Roadway Programs Technician 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Program Monitoring: Monitor roadside programs, meet with contractors, and verify that safety standards and proper procedures are followed
- Inventory Oversight: Track herbicide materials and storeroom supplies to ensure correct storage, distribution, and availability
- Data and Reporting: Collect crash data, document site conditions, enter information into systems, and maintain required records
- Contract Support: Review contractor work, schedule services, verify completion, and ensure compliance with safety expectations
- SAP Coordination: Run and review maintenance reports, assist with SAP transactions, and support planning activities
- Material Management: Process invoices, research discrepancies, manage surplus items, and assist with ordering and recordkeeping

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Schedule is subject to change due to weather/season, winter shift - 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
- One year of experience as a Technical Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of experience in analysis of data utilized in planning and scheduling of work, materials and equipment and graduation from high school or GED equivalent; or
- An Associate's Degree in a field of Business Administration, Computer Science, Highway Engineering Technology or other closely related program; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
