Job summary

Republic Services Behind the Wheel Instructor (BTWI) is responsible for preparing new drivers for on-road performance with a strong emphasis on safety, skill development, and customer service excellence. The BTWI mentors drivers, provides feedback to management, and verifies progress before drivers operate independently.

The role includes shadowing, on-property instruction, on-route coaching, vehicle inspections, and thorough documentation of trainee advancement while modeling the Republic Way

Qualifications

• Two years of experience with Republic Services.
• No crashes or injuries for at least the past two years.
• No disciplinary actions of any kind for the preceding 12 months.
• Highly proficient in the equipment style with which they are certified.
• Recommended by their supervisor and operations manager.
• Willingness to participate in the process for their Division including both written and verbal evaluations of new hired drivers.

Responsibilities

• Acclimates new drivers to the physical and environmental demands of the job during Job Shadowing.
• Provide the new employee with foundational industry knowledge to include but not limited to: Republic’s core principles and priorities, importance of safety, and customer service.
• Instructs on Skills Course Activities: on-property driving skills, stretching and injury prevention techniques, and vehicle inspection.
• Teaches and coaches drivers through on-route learning criteria and models the Republic Way of operating a solid waste vehicle.
• Provides daily feedback to management on trainee performance and completes progress paperwork.
• Performs driver duties when not training a new driver and completes other related duties as assigned.
