Job summary

The State of Iowa, Iowa DOT, seeks a Highway Technician Associate to perform roadside maintenance and operate equipment along Creston-area roadways. Daily duties include patching road surfaces, maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways, plus assisting in traffic control during maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDL permit upon hire; endorsements within 5 months.
• Pre-employment physical and drug screen; DOT Clearinghouse check.
• May require pesticide/herbicide certifications or other certifications.
• Residency within 45 minutes of Creston within 5 months.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway.
• Repairing and maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts and waterways.
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris.
• Operating snow equipment to remove snow, ice and frost from roadways.
• Mowing, cutting brush, weed and vegetation control and spraying.
