Job summary

The Florida Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician II in District Five, Orlando area. The role involves operating a variety of vehicles and machinery, performing pre-trip inspections, and maintaining roadways and bridges.

Required are a valid Class E license at hire and a CDL Class B within 60 days. On-call emergencies and safety-compliance are part of the job; benefits include health insurance, life insurance, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• Valid Class E driver's license required at hire.
• CDL Class B license required within 60 days of appointment.
• Ability to operate and maintain vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to read and understand job materials and complete forms.

Responsibilities

• Operate backhoes, tractors with attachments, crew cabs and dump trucks; perform pre-trip inspections.
• Cleans and washes equipment and maintains it.
• Use hand, pneumatic and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.
• Perform manual labor with minimal supervision and intermediate complexity.
• Perform rough carpentry, masonry, painting and install highway signs.
• Perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
