Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation in Emigrant is seeking a Maintenance Technician - CDL Driver / Equipment Operator. The role includes driving heavy trucks and operating road maintenance equipment to support culvert work, landslide cleanup, sealing, fence/bridge tasks, and road surface care.

Successful candidates must have CDL Class A Type II with tank endorsement, MEC, and at least one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• One year experience driving heavy truck or operating construction equipment.
• A valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement and a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
• Applicants not meeting the minimum qualifications may also be considered. If no qualified applicants, MDT is willing to consider a training assignment for individuals with no experience who would be eligible to obtain the CDL.

Responsibilities

• Operates various trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance tasks.
• Performs culvert placement, landslide removal, crack/mastic sealing, fence building, or bridge repair.
• Installs guardrails or signs, maintains luminaries, repairs roadways, and handles vegetation and roadside maintenance.
