Job summary

Hernando County BOCC is seeking a Maintenance Worker II to perform semi-skilled manual maintenance and construction tasks in the public works environment. Duties include road repairs, sign installation, vegetation control, operating light equipment, and assisting on-call emergency response as needed.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and two years of manual labor in road maintenance or construction.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of manual labor experience in road maintenance or construction.
  • Valid Florida Class E driver license.
  • Within 90 days: Florida Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Certification.
  • Within 3 months: FEMA NIMS IS-100.c, IS-200.b, IS-700.b.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs holes in paved or unpaved roads with asphalt or lime rock.
  • Install road signs.
  • Clear vegetation within County Right-Of-Way.
  • Operate jackhammers, load debris on trucks.
  • Sweep, blow debris from roadways and sidewalks.
  • Handle and transport trash and materials.
  • Maintain grounds: rake, mow, plant, water.
  • Perform hedge and tree trimming.
  • Prepare ground for sod and lay sod as needed.
  • Perform MOT duties for in-house crews working in Rights of Way.
