Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation seeks Transportation Maintenance Tech I/II/III in the Hondo area. The role covers maintenance of over 800 lane miles along major corridors, involving traffic control, bridge/road upkeep, and heavy equipment operation.

Positions range from Tech I to Tech III with escalating responsibilities and licensing requirements. Pre-employment physical and drug tests are part of the safety program, and state benefits apply.

Qualifications

• Education: None Required.
• Experience: TM I – None; TM II – 1 year in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work.
• TM III – 2 years in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work.

Responsibilities

• Tech I: Assists with traffic control, PMI, minor repairs, reports time-keeping and PMI, sands/cleans bridges and roads, operates heavy equipment.
• Tech II: Assists in inspecting traffic control devices, maintains highways/rights-of-way, erects/repairs guard rails and signs, moves materials to job sites; moves litter.
• Tech III: Inspects devices for compliance, may lead a work crew, trains others, supports law enforcement at accident sites, operates complex heavy equipment.
