TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking to fill General Transportation Tech positions based in Fort Worth. All training, tools, and uniforms will be provided. Salary Range:

  • General Transportation Tech I, A16: $40,918 - $61,130/year
  • General Transportation Tech II, A17: $42,976 - $64,469/year

This posting is for one (1) position, depending on business needs and applicant qualifications.

Responsibilities include routine and moderate transportation operations and maintenance, such as roadway repairs, equipment operation, traffic control, and public assistance during emergencies. Work requires contact with private entities and following standard practices with minimal supervision.

  • Assisting in sign and mailbox support installation, performing basic welding, and handling equipment and materials.
  • Supporting law enforcement at accident sites and assisting stranded motorists.
  • Managing traffic control devices and safety measures.
  • Maintaining highways, erecting signs, and hauling materials.
  • Cleaning debris and operating light equipment like loaders, rollers, and sweepers.
  • Performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, and completing reports.
  • Assisting during emergency situations such as floods, storms, and spills.

Additional duties for Tech II include:

  • Complex sign installation, welding, and problem-solving related to maintenance issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

No experience required for Tech I; at least 1 year of relevant experience for Tech II, including roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or heavy equipment operation. Technical training or education can substitute experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license required; must be able to drive a state vehicle.
  • Commercial Class A Driver's License with N endorsement or obtain one within 6 months of employment. Company-sponsored CDL training available, with salary and accommodations provided.

Additional knowledge areas include highway construction materials, traffic control standards, safety regulations, basic math, and proper tool use.

Physical Requirements and Conditions:

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and hazards.
  • Must wear protective gear and be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Walking, bending, kneeling, and long-distance movement required.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug testing required. Must be able to respond within 1 hour for emergencies.

Additional Conditions:

  • Obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months.
  • Work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours under various weather conditions.
  • Wear PPE and observe safety protocols.
  • Regular attendance and availability for emergency calls required.
