TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking to fill General Transportation Tech positions based in Fort Worth. All training, tools, and uniforms will be provided. Salary Range:

  • General Transportation Tech I: $40,918 - $61,130/year
  • General Transportation Tech II: $42,976 - $64,469/year

This posting is for one (1) position, depending on business needs and applicant qualifications.

The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the right to determine the level of the position based on experience, education, skills, and business needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine transportation maintenance such as roadway repairs, traffic control, and equipment operation.
  • Assist in installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and perform minor welding.
  • Support law enforcement at accident sites and assist stranded motorists.
  • Operate light equipment like loaders, rollers, sweepers, and mowers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Respond during emergencies like floods, storms, or accidents.

Additional duties for Tech II include:

  • Identify and repair complex maintenance issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • GTT I: No experience required.
  • GTT II: At least 1 year of relevant experience.

Experience can include transportation support, roadway maintenance, or related fields. Technical training or education may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license at application.
  • Commercial Class A Driver's License with 'N' endorsement or obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Company-sponsored CDL training available with salary and accommodations provided.

Additional knowledge includes highway construction, traffic control standards, safety regulations, and basic math.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to extreme weather, noise, and hazards.
  • Must wear protective gear and pass a physical and drug test.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, walk, stand, crouch, kneel, and work in various environments.

Additional Conditions of Employment:

  • Must obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months.
  • Work on weekends, holidays, and outside regular hours.
  • Respond to emergencies within 1 hour of notification.
