Job Description - Roadway Maintenance Tech I, II, III - Denton County (2500761)

Position Information

TxDOT's Dallas District is looking for a Roadway Maintenance Tech (General Transportation Tech) I, II, or III based in Denton, TX. This position performs routine work related to transportation activities such as construction inspection, routine & contract maintenance, bridge inspection, record keeping, roadway repair, light & heavy equipment operation, preventive & minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control, & assisting the public during emergency situations.

Salary Range for each position level
  • Roadway Maintenance Tech I: A16: $40,918.00 - $61,130.00
  • Roadway Maintenance Tech II: A17: $42,976.00 - $64,469.00
  • Roadway Maintenance Tech III: A18: $45,521.00 - $71,055.00

This position is for a Roadway Maintenance Tech I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Job Responsibilities

Performs highly complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as:

  • Contract maintenance and/or material and process inspection
  • Roadway maintenance and repair
  • Operates light and heavy equipment
  • Preventive and minor maintenance on equipment
  • Traffic control
  • Helping the public during emergency situations
  • Training other employees
Roadway Maintenance Tech I, II or III Responsibilities:
  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts
  • Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades
  • Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs
  • Operates complex heavy equipment
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI)
  • Helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: None in formal education

Experience:

  • Roadway Maintenance Tech I: No previous experience required.
  • Roadway Maintenance Tech II: 1 year transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
  • Roadway Maintenance Tech III: 2 years transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Subject to environmental conditions
  • Required to wear protective gear
  • Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
