Job summary

The State of North Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Transportation Worker III (S) in Forsyth County. The role involves a broad range of maintenance tasks on state roads, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and construction activities with various equipment.

You will monitor inmate tasks and respond to emergencies during day or night shifts. Applicants must have a HS diploma or GED and five years of related equipment operation, plus a valid NC CDL or be willing to obtain one

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and five years of equipment operating experience.
• Must hold a current North Carolina CDL or obtain via on‑the‑job training within 360 days.
• Pre-employment drug testing and background check required; ability to work shifts and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Set up work zones and traffic control devices for maintenance and construction.
• Repair asphalt pavements and clear right of way of debris and hazards.
• Operate equipment including asphalt maintainer, dump trucks, backhoe, and skid steer.
• Respond to emergencies such as snow/ice removal and weather-related incidents.
