Job summary

State of North Carolina - Department of Transportation in Forsyth County seeks a Transportation Worker II to maintain highways, operate patch trucks, dump trucks, sweepers, rollers, and skid steers, and respond to emergencies including snow removal. Inmates may be transported under supervision.

Position requires safety-conscious operation, English communication, and the ability to obtain/hold a CDL within 360 days. Includes CDL prerequisites and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 3 years of experience operating highway equipment.
• Ability to read and follow safety instructions and road maintenance procedures.
• Valid NC driver’s license or ability to obtain CDL within 360 days.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway equipment such as patch truck, dump truck, sweeper, roller, or skid steer.
• Install traffic control devices and erosion control measures.
• Crack seal and asphalt patching; install pipe culverts and perform ditch work.
• Transport inmates as required and assist with emergency response tasks.
