Job summary

Benton County Public Works/Highway Department is seeking a dependable Highway Maintenance Operator to maintain county roads, bridges, and related infrastructure year-round. You will safely operate a variety of highway maintenance equipment and perform roadway maintenance to ensure safe, accessible travel for the public.

Qualified candidates have a two-year associate degree in Equipment Operation or related field, a valid Minnesota CDL, and experience in road maintenance.

Qualifications

• Two-year associate degree or higher in Equipment Operation or closely related field.
• Two years of road/highway maintenance or equipment operation experience.
• Valid Minnesota Class A CDL required.
• Must register in FMCSA Clearinghouse and pass background checks.
• Must complete pre-employment testing and random drug screening.
• Ability to obtain and maintain safety certifications within one year.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and inspect county roads, ditches, signs, and culverts in all seasons.
• Operate snowplows and other heavy equipment to clear roads.
• Perform pavement maintenance and repairs.
• Install and maintain traffic control devices and signage; conduct flagging as needed.
• Coordinate with Sheriff's Office on seasonal road restrictions.
• Perform monthly equipment inventories and basic maintenance.
