Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a highway maintenance equipment operator to perform a mix of operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor for roadway maintenance. Duties include snow/ice removal, traffic control, and work-zone safety.

Successful candidates will operate various equipment, complete pre-trip inspections, and follow OSHA/VOSHA and MUTCD guidelines. Full-time position with a state hiring range of $42,418 to $68,929 per year.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must be able to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Experience with highway maintenance equipment is preferred.
• Ability to read and follow plans and instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain light, medium and heavy highway equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs.
• Assist with emergency roadway operations and snow removal.
• Implement traffic control per MUTCD and ensure work zone safety.
