Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance planning, crew supervision, and daily operations for the Northumberland County area. Responsibilities include work planning, supervising highway and bridge crews, handling emergency responses, and conducting inspections.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration)
• Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Work Planning: Develop programs, estimates, and plans for long range, annual, and short term maintenance activities
• Crew Supervision: Oversee general and specialized crews performing highway and bridge maintenance and minor construction work
• Agility Management: Develop, negotiate, and monitor agility agreements and meet with local partners to establish work priorities
• Emergency Response: Manage incident and emergency activities for the assigned portion of the county
• Work Inspection: Conduct or coordinate inspections of maintenance activities, contract work, and operational practices
• Staff Leadership: Plan and evaluate work of subordinates, complete performance reviews, provide coaching and guidance, and participate in the hiring process
