The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager to support essential highway maintenance operations across McKean County. You will help plan work, direct crews, and oversee roadway projects to keep travel safe and reliable for communities you serve.

You will manage maintenance operations, work planning, and crew supervision within an assigned area, with duties including planning, scheduling, inspections, and staff development.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator or equivalent
  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance or heavy equipment
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training
  • PA residency requirement and valid Class C license may apply

This position helps manage maintenance operations, work planning, and crew supervision across an assigned area of McKean County. As an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Maintenance Planning: Develop plans and estimates for roadway, bridge, and seasonal maintenance operations
  • Crew Supervision: Direct general and specialized crews during maintenance and minor construction work
  • Work Scheduling: Prepare drafts of long range, annual, monthly, and weekly work plans
  • Agility Coordination: Work with local organizations to negotiate and oversee fair service exchange agreements
  • Inspection Oversight: Review maintenance activities and coordinate inspections of contract work
  • Personnel Management: Assign tasks, evaluate performance, coach employees, and address staffing needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS) after successful completion of probationary period.
  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
  • All positions require possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
