Job summary

NC Department of Transportation in Duplin County (Duplin CME) is seeking a skilled Transportation Worker IV to join the maintenance team. The role leads a highway crew, performs substantial maintenance, and operates heavy equipment required to keep state roads safe and reliable.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of six years of related equipment experience; CDL must be obtained if not already held.

Qualifications

• High school or GED and six years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a highway maintenance crew and direct daily activities.
• Perform preventive maintenance, roadway repair, and installation of traffic/erosion control devices.
• Clear right of way, grade roadways, and repair pavement; operate heavy equipment as needed.
• Inspect contract work and supervise manual labor activities.
• May require night/weekend/holiday work and emergency callbacks; follow safety protocols.
