Job summary

State of Indiana is hiring a Highway Maintenance Laborer to work on Indiana highways and interstates, performing general maintenance to keep roads clean and safe. The role requires CDL or obtaining one within 90 days, ability to lift 50 pounds, and readiness for overtime during emergencies.

Location is with INDOT's Rochester Unit, with a starting hourly rate of $20. CDL positions add $1 per hour. Benefits include health plans, paid leave, and retirement options.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one within 90 days.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities and endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain, repair and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations duties including snow and ice removal.
• Perform emergency response activities such as clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, signs and barricades.
• Inspect and perform routine equipment maintenance and basic repairs.
