Job summary

State of Indiana's INDOT Crown Point Unit is seeking an entry-level Highway Maintenance Laborer to keep Indiana highways safe. The role includes trash pickup, pothole repair, drainage work, snow plowing, and assisting with traffic control.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday with mandatory overtime for emergencies, including winter operations. Starting pay is $20.00 per hour, with CDL holders earning an additional $1 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods.
• Must endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g. bucket trucks, paint equipment).
• Knowledge of inventory control systems may be required.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain roads and rights‑of‑way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations including snow and ice removal.
• Assist with traffic control during emergencies and road closures.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and inspections.
