Job summary

VDOT is seeking a diligent maintenance worker to operate highway equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and assist in emergency roadway operations. You will clear snow, debris, and hazards while coordinating traffic control and work zones per MUTCD guidelines.

Qualifications

• Communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Prepare and maintain safety documentation and PPE.
• Experience with highway maintenance equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of work zone safety and MUTCD standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate light, medium and heavy highway equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Prepare equipment for snow and ice removal and respond to emergencies.
• Set up and maintain traffic control devices per MUTCD; assist with detours and work zones.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Work as part of a crew to complete projects and maintain safety standards.
