Job summary

Anne Arundel County – Public Works Department is seeking a Full Time, Permanent Safety Sensitive Maintenance Worker I. The role involves heavy manual labor in road and drainage maintenance, minor construction, and related tasks across several crews.

The job requires physical stamina, the ability to follow written and oral instructions, and a valid Class C driver’s license. CDL preferred; testing for CDS and alcohol applies. Longevity pay is available based on years of service.

Qualifications

• Ability to acquire some skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in the area of assignment.
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods and under unfavorable weather conditions.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
• This position is Safety Sensitive and employees are subject to CDS and Alcohol testing.
• Longevity pay is available based on years of service.
• Preference for grass cutting, roadside litter pickup, cleaning buildings, and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to lift up to 90 lbs. alone, up to 180 lbs. with a partner.

Responsibilities

• Perform heavy manual labor as part of road or storm drain maintenance and minor construction crews.
• Pour and shovel asphalt and concrete, tamp and smooth asphalt, dig holes, and fill depressions.
• Clean up debris on streets and maintain drainage systems and ditches.
• Paint and repair bleachers, backstops, benches, signs, and road markings as assigned.
• Operate power tools and related equipment as needed for regular tasks.
