Job summary

RETTEW is seeking an experienced Roadway Engineer III to join our Transportation team and take greater ownership of roadway design and project delivery. This role is designed for an engineer who has built a solid foundation in roadway engineering and is ready to independently handle increasingly complex assignments, contribute to PennDOT projects, and become a trusted technical resource to project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Experience in roadway/transportation infrastructure design.
• Experience supporting PennDOT projects.
• Experience using CAD and/or transportation-design software.
• Ability to independently perform roadway engineering and design tasks.
• Experience preparing plans, calculations, reports, estimates, or other technical deliverables.
• Knowledge of PennDOT standards and project requirements.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments.

Responsibilities

• Perform and lead roadway design and analysis for projects.
• Develop roadway plans, alignments, profiles, cross sections, and other design elements.
• Prepare and review calculations, plans, specs, reports, estimates, and documents.
• Apply engineering judgment to develop practical solutions to design challenges.
• Use CAD and design software to deliver high-quality outputs.
• Interpret and apply PennDOT standards and project requirements.
• Coordinate technical work with project teams and stakeholders.
• Support project managers with scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Participate in field investigations and construction activities.
• Provide technical guidance to developing engineers and designers.
• Assist with scopes of work, technical approaches, and proposals.
